When trying to run the example of
one_dof_oscillatorI ran into this displaying problem in my setup with VSCode:Changing the display string from
\[ equation \]to$$ equation $$fixed it:Is this formatting also valid with your tools? If so, I would say to keep
$$ $$as I think it is more general.Hope it helps!
